Ascot caps
The Ascot cap, also known as the Cuffley cap, is a hard men's cap similar to the flat cap, but distinguished
by its stiffness and rounded shape. Ascot caps are typically made from felt and worn in the fall or winter, but
straw Ascots also exist for warmer weather.
More on caps
A cap is a form of headgear. Caps have crowns that fit closer than hats and have no brim or only a visor. They are
typically designed for warmth and when including a visor, help block the sun from the eyes.
Summer straw Ascot caps are usually made from paper straw which makes them stiff. They are often rounded dome shaped
straw Ascots designed for a cool summer afternoon. Nowadays, they are often made of imported Toyo straw and the hat
holds its firm classic look but still breathes and allows the cool breeze in. They are ideal for an afternoon at
the ballpark being particularly lightweight.

The Seagrass Ascot caps
The Ascot's ventilated open weave of the seagrass straw allows for great breathability for those hot summer days.
The Ascots shape, like the Cuffley or Carrimac, is blocked into a semi rigid form to hold its shape and has a sewn
down visor. The twist in the straw makes it much stronger and more durable than regular flat straw. They are usually available
in white and black twisted toyo straw with the same look except for color.
Caps are traditionally worn at Ascot and other horse racing events by the public except in the Royal enclosures where
more formal top hats are required. They are part of the sporting scene and are often considered chic and in vogue by
the sporting fraternity. The seagrass and straw Ascot caps are more commonly seen at other sporting events as they
are a practical cap which can be used without any stigma attached.
