The Thursday event at Royal Ascot is traditionally set for ladies day and this is usually the day that every lady makes a special
effort and dresses up. Hats are a major feature of ladies day and there is an opportunity for the most flamboyant Ascot Hat
to impress. The BBC sometimes runs an informal hat competion amongst ladies who are able to design their own. But most
attendees will buy or hire a hat to suit from the many suppliers.

This is much simplier to describe - since men are required to wear formal morning suits in the Royal Enclosures, they are
bound to wear a grey top hat. However, there are variations on a Ascot Hat grey top hat and it is best to check with your hat
supplier and the Royal Ascot dress code to ensure that no mistakes are made. For men, the best advice is to be very
formal and stick rigidly to the rules. Ladies are allowed to bend the ruls slightly, but not so for the men.
