Royal Ascot smoking pipe
Introduction
There are many different sorts of pipes used to smoke tobacco in. Smoking has become less popular amongst the middle
aged generations, but is still as popular in the form of cigarettes with the young generation. Pipe smoking,
however is associated with older people and many of the earlier speciality pipes are now more difficult to find.
The Royal Ascot pipe is classed as an English estate smoking pipe made from briar wood. There are some details on ebay and
the other links opposite, with plenty of pictures of English estate pipes at the recycledcollectibles link.
One of the best places to find a speciality smoking pipe such as a Royal Ascot smoking pipe, is on ebay. You simply bid
for a pipe and if successful, get the whole thing sent to you, often including the original tobacco. Apparently
the thing NOT to do it to clean them out before selling them on. This may have something to do with it's authenticity.

More on English estate smoking pipes
An example of a recent Royal Ascot smoking pipe that came up on ebay, described it as follows :
"This is a Royal Ascot Deluxe Imported Briar, Italy 170. There is a marking on the mouthpiece, but I cannot identify
it. It looks like it might be a "D" . We are by no means experts on pipes, we are just reading what is on the pipe
itself. We have not cleaned these pipes, some of them still have the tobacco in them."
So much for a detailed description, but basically it is a smoking pipe in a Royal Ascot smoking pipe design made from
briar wood which allows for slow burning. Most pipes benefit from a breaking in period before they reach their peak of
smoking excellence.
